How to Care for Your Epoxy Countertops
You’ve got your fantastic custom countertop. Now what? How do you care for them? Learn everything you need to know here.
Your countertop has multiple layers of color and pattern, with final clear coatings to seal in these details and provide a protective barrier. After fully cured, countertop grade epoxy provides a hardened, scratch resistant finish that will last for years to come. To help minimize any concerns for long term wear, we recommend mild, non-abrasive cleaning products, since epoxy countertops can be sanitized easily, are stain resistant and non-porous.
When using a chef’s knife or other sharp utensils, we highly recommend using a cutting board to protect your countertops, especially when cutting meat, crunchy vegetables or other more dense items.
If you notice the countertop needing a little makeover to bring back the sheen and depth, extended care products are available for purchase, that help bring it back to new. Over time if you develop any light scratches, these can be buffed out with a buffing pad, however we highly recommend leaving that to us. With multiple finish sheen options, it can be easy to buff too aggressively and deeply, damaging the foundational color layers in your countertop. For more significant scratches or damage, for additional costs, we can re-pour or spot repair the damaged area. That’s right; all of our countertops repair without a problem.
Our countertops are heat resistant up to 475° which is hotter than most standard home ovens are able to reach under normal circumstances. If your oven has a “self cleaning mode” this can typically reach over 500°, so use extra caution at these times. You’ll also want to avoid any contact with open flames, such as a culinary torch, as this will far exceed the limit. For long heat exposure coming from slow cookers, toaster ovens, etc we recommend using a trivet mat to prevent any long term discoloration.
By following these suggestions, you will help do your part to ensure your beautiful custom countertops will last for many years to come!
